USAID Belarus Country Representative, Chuck Howell, greets seminar participants
Minsk - December 03, 2007. The international seminar “Countering Trafficking in Human Beings: Economic Empowerment for at-risk Groups” was held in Minsk Oblast by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in the framework of the USAID-supported Prevention of Trafficking in Persons Project.  Representatives of governmental, non-governmental and international organizations from Belarus and the neighboring countries attended the seminar.

The seminar hosted a discussion of the benefits of economic empowerment programs for at-risk groups,

which provide potential and actual victims of trafficking with employment opportunities inside their home country and thus prevent them from being trafficked.  Experience of IOM programs in Belarus and other countries, such as Ukraine and Moldova, were presented and discussed.
